I'm surprised Social Services (CPS) isn't looking into these 2 as parents.
A mother who doesn't want to around her children because they make her , was crabby" or some such. Children have been removed for less here in California...never to see their children again. Maybe if she ate properly she could stand being around them ...the whole family has a lack luster look about them ...malnorished?

CPS started as a good idea but unfortunately has evolved into a system that encourages to move children into foster homes (who make big bucks taking in foster children) and kickbacks for the agent who places the child. CPS is a VERY corrupt agency.

I'm not defending Stephen, not by a long shot. I just think CPS resources are needed for severe, if not criminal, negligence and abuse of children. Parents have the right to be snobs and raise snobs. If you think they are pushing their kids too much, into doing things the kids don't want to do, just go visit some soccer or baseball games where 7-11 yr olds play and see how the parents behave.

What I think about Fowler is simple.
If it were not for this country, he would be doing a goose step now.
I am a former Marine with 3(2 BS's and MBA)degrees and a redneck.

Let me start off by saying thank you for serving our country. It is one of the most noble things to put your life on the line to protect all of us, including Fowler...I would say Mr. Fowler, but I have no respect for the man, so he will not receive a respectful title from me. I commend you on your education as well. I am working on my second Bachelor's degree and sometimes college can be a nightmare. Now, the redneck thing, that holds a special place in my heart because I am originally from rural Georgia and now I live in rural North Carolina. Some of the people I love the most are considered "rednecks" and I would never hope for anything different. Rednecks tend to be extremely resourceful and hardworking, not to mention a darn good shot. Maybe Fowler needs to spend the day with a few rednecks and see what he can learn about preserving land and the environment. Or, what do you think about sending him to North Carolina on the first day deer hunting season opens while we replay his nasty comments over numerous loudspeakers?

I did not watch the show when it aired but I was able to see it on You Tube and I was socked, to say the least. Before obtaining any highe education degree, embracing any convictions, religion, etc. the most important part in the life of a human being is the first 7 years of his/her life where the character base is build by (in most cases) parents. It seems that Mr. Fowler skipped that part (probably because he was born a genius). Besides his view about obesity, education, environmental issues, mid-west the greatest problem that I have with him and his wife is their hypocrisy. To make statements about America as a ill country and stay and enjoy the resources and a lavish life style under the pretext of helping the Americans see his views(knowing that nowhere in this World they would be able to explore opportunities like here) is what makes me sick.I was in London in November 2004 when Mr Bush visited London and beside the 100,000 French who left hate signs the British people were screaming 'assasin' and protesting against our President. It was the same people that when announced the priveledge of allies to construct Afghanistan that turned around and applauded Prime Minister Tony Blair's involvment. So, Mr. Fowler please leave this awful country and go and live a more serene life where you would not be stressed by so much ignorance and naivity in your beloved country of origin and please do not forget your wife who regardless that she was born here shares your position and therefore she should too benefit from a more serene life.
I hope that Americans will not pay and help businesses managed by 'hypocrits' like the Fowlers flourish on US grounds. Even the appologies I find them made under the pressure and not sincere. My regards to the children who are the most innocent in all this. Knowing the animosity that existed between French and Brits for so long is very funny to see one sending his kinds to learn french. Looking at the trend if he was so 'smart' he would have booked them for mandarin courses.

I did NOT vote for Obama and I do not care for him or his views, but I must respect him for the position he is in. It is my duty as an AMERICAN to pray that he will do what is best for this country. Might I add that is not Bush that put us in the situation we are in. It started with the Clinton administration (so ponder that a while as you are bashing our former President). The irony of your remarks is that I have the absolute hard won right to say anything I want about the President of this country. That I found Bush an embarrassment, dangerous, and incredibly stupid and thoughtless is my right as an American. I lived thru 8 years of this man, his questionable election, and his lies, including starting a war in a forgien country that never hurt us and subsequently murdering thousands of people. To tell the truth you are all right and all wrong you say we can't speak our minds and say that only the people who served our country can. Well the problem is when the Constitution was written none of you were even born and if you were I would love to know where the fountain of youth is located. I disagree with you. This program has a well-defined format. Yes, it broadcasts incendiary moments between the visiting wives and their host families, but it follows a well-plotted arc of "discovery-crisis-resolution-acceptance." I work in television production so I know. The remarks that Stephen Fowler made go far beyond the range of behvaior in this long-running show. He should have his passport revoked. He doesn't deserve to live on our soil.

I think it’s funny now that the show has aired that she’s the one trying to save face for her husband’s actions. I also saw the same characteristic traits from her as well; she just wasn’t as out spoken as he was. She in my mind is worse then him, at least you know were he stands and he will tell you to your face. I vividly remember her laughing and mocking the other family as well at the end of the show when she got back to her home and family. She also didn’t say a word, nor did she protest his actions when he attacked and mocked her when the couples met face to face either. I feel the only reason that she feels bad is that they were exposed for who they really are and its adverse affects on them directly. There are all kinds of discrimination and bigotry happening to people in the US, but I have to say I have never seen it on the level that Mr. and Mrs. Fowler achieved across all line of intolerance and human differences. There is no difference between this behavior and racism in the minds of Americans. The one thing that I don’t get is didn’t they ever watch the program and what it’s all about. The one thing I like about the show is ability to show families how to bring balance in one another life, from one opposite extreme family to another’s. This is always the case of any kind of extremist behavior from racism to politics there has to be a balance and tolerance.

WowI I was so appalled by how Fowler treated a guest in his home! As a British person living in the USA I am embarrassed to be anything that can connect me to him. His verbal abuse, constant insults and him condoning his children to treat her that way was completely unacceptable. I was disappointed in his wife's reaction to his behaviour - surely she could have held him accountable - he obviously likes the sound of his own voice more than anything else! I pity those kids living their "privileged & educated" life with parents like that to drill and push them through life. Far better to have parents who nurture and care for their kids, who are willing to learn and improve on their mistakes as did the other parents. I hope that Fowlers life is forever changed by this and that ultimately he pays the price for his smarmy superior attitude. I pity anyone who has to live in a home with him!

I have to second your comments, this man is an embarassement to his intelligence and I pity his children. They will become exactly copies of their parents, but believe me, I prefer to see the happiness in the faces of Gayla's children. They are open to change. Stephen Fowler has no manners, the irony is that he saids he doesn't respond to someone who screams at him but he spent the whole time doing the exact behavior, he had no respect and caring for another person. Sadily, I think he has not learned anything from this experience. Just watched clips of this show on you tube. I kind of feel sorry for this person. To be that far out of touch. Must have been one of those kids who got tortured and bullied in school. I am quite well educated and have diverse interests, but I am not so ignorant to believe that no one else's opinion or interests do not have merit. I live in Canada, but I guess my opinions do not matter because my grandparents came here from middle America (Missouri) 100 years ago (before that jolly old england!)

The kids looked pretty decent, but led astray by a crazy authoritarian at home who has disdain for freedom and the differences humans have from one another.
Of course, there was some editing done, but I don't know of anyone who would have the audacity to call anyone fat or uneducated, especially to their face. So what we saw was Fouler berating a stranger because she was uneducated, overweight, and someone he did not respect. What he is "normally" is unknown, but we can only go by what we see.
What makes a man "unclean" is what comes out of his heart. No amount of "advanced degrees" or "sophisticated thinking" can overcome the scum that is on the inside.

The program referred to Mr Fowler as a European. So as a European living in the US, I would like to ask for forgiveness for his behaviour. He was so proud to be well educated. But he is probably the best example when education does not meet intelligence. He is just an arrogant, crude, simple minded person.
Me and my wife hold master degrees from Economics and Computer Science. We consider ourselves well educated and well informed. But we could never ever behave like this "person". I wonder why USA provided citizenship to a man like him.
He does not like his kids at all. He replaces love and kindness with providing education and classes. I guess he does not care right now, but with time he will realize it.
I have to also comment on his wife's behaviour. She looks like a nice person. She claims that she is helping people with all kinds of problems and mentoring them. Why she is not mentoring his husband with his really injured, handicapped soul?

I believe the grammar error was not about the masters degrees, it was before that. He said:
Me and my wife hold.... which means he's saying:

I dropped out of high school my senior year (I was 16) and I haven't taken ANY college courses. Grammar happens to be a strength of mine. Language in general is a strength of mine. In fact, I'm also fluent in Mandarin Chinese. Just like some others who have posted here I noticed your grammatical errors.
I'm glad you've made these mistakes. The point people are missing here is that regardless of education or the lack thereof, WE ARE ALL HUMAN. We have strengths and weaknesses. We make mistakes as we are not infallible. We have good moments and bad moments.
Character is of the utmost importance to me as well as many other Americans. Fowler has absolutely terrible character traits. These negative traits can be seen as clear as day regardless of editing.
Anyway, I wanted you to know that I HEARD what you were saying and I was able to look past the trivial mistakes that you made in saying it.

The ludicrously short statements that survived the brutal editing were never in context. Scenes shown were not in sequence. Comments uttered at other times were combined with different video footage to accentuate the outrage of naive viewers.
Gayla trampled on most of the values Stephen holds dear (literally, in the way she entered his bedroom uninvited IN HER SHOES - the barbarian!), neeeeedled him to the point of exasperation while all the time insisting to similarly sanctimonious viewers that she only wanted to let the kids have fun, and then when Stephen fought back hitting her where it hurt ... how happy the producers must have been. Let's stitch this guy up, they obviously thought. Quick, get in touch with the other team, tell Alan to stop being Mr. Nasty and become Mr. Nice, then we'll really have a show. Shame on abc and shame on anyone who takes it seriously.
I'd like to know what excuse all the "outraged" have for watching such programs in the first place. Sort yourselves out.

In case you all didn't notice, "Damo Kawasaki," who has been on other blogs recently, seems to have an awful lot of inside information about how this show was filmed and edited. There are some who say "Damo" is Stephen, and judging by the incredible amount of info he seems to have, I would tend to agree.
He continues to show that he doesn't get it at all. These two claim to be so careful about the environment and so forward thinking, but show themselves to be closed minded and dim. Renee just doesn't want to see the man she is married to as he really is. He acted childish and obviously is very insecure.
Every person regardless of education or station deserves to be treated with respect, and no amount of editing could make Stephen Fowler look that bad if the words and attitudes hadn't been present to begin with. But they show themselves unwilling to learn, unwilling to be humble, unwilling to be human.
I feel sorry for them both, and most of all for their children, who will grow up thinking that's how people act. Stephen, maybe you should read a few books by Miss Manners. Go get a phd in being a human being.

The truth is that those of you who thrive on watching so-called "reality" tv are continually feeding a system that honors uncivility and impoliteness. Improper conduct is why you watch, it makes for exciting television, entertainment in itself. The more the children (and the average american) watch this "standard" - even as entertainment - the more they are encouraged to behave in the same way. Over time, they develop the mindset of "Hey, they do it on TV, it must be how ALL Americans act. Why can't I do it at home?" Thus the fabric of a polite and civil CIVILIZATION begins to unravel.
Our grandparents would be appalled by what passes as entertainment today. There is something to be said for minding one's manners and being civil no matter what one thinks inside one's own head. It's one's behavior toward one's fellow man that makes one educated in the school of humanity.
I can't even begin to explain nor understand what makes a human being believe they are "better" than another human being. Do we not all breathe the same air? Do we not all look the same underneath our skin? Do we not all need food and water to function? Without the lowly farm worker, Stephen Fowler would not have fresh greens in his healthy salad! Without the uneducated steel worker, Stephen Fowler would have to wash his clothes by hand instead of in a washing machine. But I forget, Stephne Fowler hired someone else to do his work for him...someone less educated than he. But someone smart enough to earn their living from Fowler's pocketbook.
Does this Stephen Fowler proudly give dollars to the out-of-work and destitute street person who begs on the corner because he has money to spare for those less fortunate than himself? No, instead he spends his money on bragging that he is trying to protect the planet instead of serving his fellow man as we all should do.
Frighteningly, if we keep heading down this sick path, glorifying the "reality TV" and making famous those who display inconscionable human behavior for entertainment, soon enough there won't be any humans left to inhabit the green, renewed, saved planet earth. They will all have evenutally killed each other because they believe it's "my way or the highway" or "everyone is wrong but me". We are already experiencing barbarism in war and soon...perhaps for entertainment?

We all know that the show was edited and that the scenes were not necessarily shown in the order they were filmed in. The filming takes place over two weeks and the show is only an hour long, we can do the math. But no amount of editing and scene sequencing would change the fact that he made numerous ignorant, prejudice and highly offensive remarks( unless of course you think that he was calling the neighbors dog a fat, uneducated red neck from po-dunk MI and they just edited it to LOOK like he was saying it to Gayla).
Are you really so self-important that you think you can just imagine up an entirely unrealistic scenario and spout it off here and were all just going to believe in this fictional scenario of yours? Well sorry to disappoint but I know a lot more about editing shows and movies than most since I edit movies for a living and I can categorically say that he said those things, editing can only do so much. And no matter what context he said them in it still makes his comments and statements insulting and disgusting to hear(even if she was needling him which I highly doubt since her personality was very consistent on the show).
I am beginning to think that you are Renee or his wife or possibly a friend or family member because no one in their RIGHT MIND would side with him. But of course maybe you aren't in your right mind.
Nevertheless, Renee has shown his true colors on national TV and on the worldwide web and no matter where he goes he will be recognized and shunned for his repulsive behavior. His apologies are worthless since they were prompted by everyone's criticisms and not by his own remorse. In stating that an intellectual doesn't perform manual labor (or that a farm hand can't be an intellectual) you are demonstrated the same naivety that this Fowler character did (though your definitely not an ass like he is!). I just watched the episode and Stephen Fowler is a verbal abuser who probably treats his wife with the same type of constant verbal abuse--though in her case it would based on what he deems as her weaknesses. And to Mr. and Mrs. Fowler--I grew up in the very small town in the Midwest, have my masters degree, am an environmentalist...so how do I fit into your stereotypical paradigm? Your rigid stereotypes about the Midwest are very similar to what was so offensive with Obama's statement (that he made in San Francisco) about people in small towns clinging to guns and religion. And to all on this site:: We have class issues in this country that are disguised as other things (patriotism for instance) because as Americans--we are suppose to be able to achieve anything so class shouldn't exist--but it does and Stephen's horrible horrible behavior to this nice Midwest mother and his wife's acceptance of it--proves just that. Stephen Fowler obviously has deep-seeded self-esteem issues. You can chalk the other parents foibles up to sensationalist editing, but no amount of editing can make a decent person come off like Fowler did.
I suspect, for all the people who dislike him after that show, that he likes himself even less. People who are happy with themselves don't lash out at others like that. Only people who are deeply insecure about their own inadequacies work that hard to find fault in others.
The most tragic thing about this whole episode is that a man like that is allowed to have children at all. What the hell did he tell those small children to get them to be so rude to a seemingly nice woman who was a guest in their home? He is teaching his children to look down on others. What a vile thing to do. What a vile, loathsome man.

I bet he comes from a very poor, undereducated, over-opinionated family back in England. He has reinvented himself by moving to San Fran where his history remains whatever he wants it to be. There is an obvious effort to "make up" for things in his past.
As an anthropologist I feel there are many valuable cultural lessons to be learned from any "group." Why people like the Fowlers put such an emphasis on french lessons, and fencing shows their cultural/worldly stupidity. They have a movie influenced misunderstanding about what being "cultured" really is. They instantly think of french lessons, wine, and the symphony, but the reality is even the European continent is more diverse than that. Their inability to be creative or properly understand what it is to be "worldly" is demonstrated by their very narrowed perception and idea of "cultured and worldliness." People who are authentic don't put such effort into "convincing" others.
And as a side note a masters degree is nothing. Everyone I know that has a bachelors degree has one. A Phd would have been a bit more impressive. He seems to be overly proud of such a "common" degree. He's incredibly insecure and that's probably why he didn't want to take that college exam. You know they would have read the results JUST for humiliation purposes, because he was such a pompous(perfect description Mrs. Long!) a$$.

Stephen Fowler has done alot, but one of the biggest things he did was reaffirm the general arrogant attitude that people from his neck of the woods have towards people that may have a different world view than them. He's not an isolated example though. I have a brother that lives in San Francisco. We often disagree on political issues. Whenever he refers to people in middle America he calls them "those idiot bumpkin Bible beaters!" Is it no surprise that when Obama made his "clinging to guns and religion" gaffe, it was to a crowd in San Francisco. The only difference between him and I imagine thousand of others from his city, like my brother, is that he said it publicly....but rest assure there are thousands if not millions of elitist on the left who for all their lip-service to tolerance are the most narrow-minded bigots on the planet.

I watched the show and was deeply upset with the way he acted. But i was even more pissed when he started talking shit about people in the military or loved ones in the military. I am 23 years old and I'm heading off for my 3rd tour in Iraq in 3 months. Recently I lost my father and sister in Iraq. So if this dickwad wants to say that whoever is in the war is scum or the "bottom of society" I say we throw his ass over there and see if hes still whistling that same fucking tune. While he's sleeping in his nice comfortable bed, husbands, fathers, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, n wives are risking their lives so he can sleep in peace. Watching this episode made me cry(I know that sounds girly). But whoever had spent time in the war and has seen it first hand will agree on the amount of pain its caused. And this fucking bitch scrutinizes the armed services when he hasn't even seen it first hand or known anyone that has been over there

I didn't see the show, I haven't read all the articles but I saw enough to wonder why this guy doesn't go live in another country if this one isn't good enough for him. Go to France. They'll accept you. It always amazes me how people think they are so intelligent but are really ignorant. True intelligence includes grace and respect. After all if it was not for the American military, he would probably be speaking German, via the Nazis. Who are the British to critize anyone? I saw the show and felt that the woman from Missouri exhibited far more class and grace. Fowler lived up to his name, behaving like a spoiled child. As far as emotional intelligence, he's obviously a moron. What makes his behavior so represensible is that there is absolutely no reason at all he couldn't be a decent human being. IQ means absolutely zilch if a person chooses to act so nasty. I think the producers shouldn't escape notice as they appear to instigate this type of behavior. The put-downs, cursing, all of that garbage needed to have been addressed. I would hope that all the people out there who act like Fowler and there are many, would listen up because there is no justification for mistreating people. None.

As someone who was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area (who also has a British mother), I was completely appalled by Mr. Fowler's behavior. He does not "represent" anyone I know. My husband and I caught the last 30 min. of this episode while flipping channels and we couldn't believe what we were watching. If my husband and I ever happened to see Mr. Fowler on the street, I'd have to restrain my husband from punching Mr. Fowler in the face. Sure, we're liberals who have environmental concerns, but we're not assholes. Mr. Fowler is simply an asshole and unfortunately assholes can be found anywhere and everywhere.

Some people are so insecure about themselves, that they obviously feel the need to put others down. I saw this episode of "Wife Swap" and was completely annoyed by the lack of participation and poor attitude of this man. I was raised very well by people who knew the value of an education, both in a classroom, AND when dealing with other people. The classroom part is easy to accomplish, but this man needs an education when it comes to being kind to others. If he hates it here so much and hates all Americans, why not just leave?

I was enraged by this idiot. I am an Iraq Air Force Veteran and I lost my husband in Iraq in July of 2006. This guy spoke so poorly of our military members I wanted to shake him. I cannot stand people like him. They claim to be “proper” and “educated” but judge people for no damn reason. No one is better than anyone. Everyone has faults his just happens to be that he has very low self-esteem and is probably upset because the military would not accept him.

I would like to inform Mr Fowler of the fact that not all of the people from the middle of the united states are uneducated, overweight slackers that have no sense of what going on in the world. that I have a college degree in biological sciences and chemistry and i live in wichita kansas, and yes i am going on to graduate school. I have also been very active in my community. I have also been fortunate enough to travel to his country , and several others at that and when I was there I showed more respect for the people there than he would ever dream of showing anyone. So stick that in your pipe and smoke it you ingrate of a man.

Horrible how he dragged his kids into his despicable behavior! It was heart breaking when his son was so petrified to be playing in the upstairs room with his friends, it revealed so much about his "parenting" skills. He has none. Both him and his wife got their 15 minutes of fame and I hope we never see either of them again. I can't believe she counsels people at all when she is living with that at home!! Scary. And scary her daughter has picked up the snooty attitudes. Very painful to watch these children act out their parent's behavior. I hope the show revisits them when they are teenagers rebelling against the awful parenting they received.

I am a newcomer to this issue as I do not watch ABC's show Wifeswap, however after coming across this on Yahoo and investigating further into this (and I use the term very loosely) man and his unbelievable comments and behavior I find myself compelled to express my thoughts and feelings as well. While I have had the displeasure to from time to time come into contact with others of similar character, I have to say this individual has by far, truly reached for the stars and obtained a level of conceit and obnoxious behavior that until this time was not known to exist in the universe. I believe even if he tried he couldn't achieve a more inept view of Americans or humanity as a whole for that matter. I wonder to myself why such a poor excuse of a human being, so totally void of compassion for his fellow man is here in the U.S. in the first place? Maybe his fellow Brits had all they stand of him and deported his pathetic carcass out of the country (their gain is our loss). Or maybe he didn't feel elitist enough back home with true nobility on the same soil. Whatever the reason he's here and we're stuck with him. Let's just hope that he sustains a injury that leaves him unable to procreate anymore like himself, and let's also pray that his poor children as they get older are wise enough to realize what a pathetic example of a human being he really is and chose to become the complete opposite of him. Well as to people that he feels he is better then. I am retired Navy. The military is an open opertunity for some of us without a silver spoon in our mouth to see parts of the world and to see it in a way that you won't see it on a two week vacation.
The military gives freely of its self. Remeber it is all volenteer. Without the military he mat not have the job that he currently holds or the income that comes with it. And then maybe he shopuld thank the military of years past that have protected and also given him the personel freedoms he has here in the states, speach,choice and religion to mention a few. I do not like anti military people nor do I permit them to be part of my social life. I remain as far from that narrow "I am better" attitude as I can. As one SEABEE to the rest of my brothers and sisters in arms "THANK YOU FOR YOU SERVICE"

Kudos to the show. They did a great job of picking an unstable upper crust couple and a stable middle class couple. The middle class and lower class get bashed so often. It was a little refreshing to see the upper class get theirs. Reminded me of the boorish uppies of the old black and white movies. I am not sure where to start so I will start with a statement, I have served in the Army for the last 5 years and was wounded in Iraq and will never walk right again. With that said let me say something a lot of you will disagree with. Thank you Stephen Fowler for your dissention of those of us who serve in uniform, because that is why we do it. I know that you don't understand why we serve, why we fight, why we get up in the morning at 0500 and prepare for our day. But please remember this, that man that you see outside your door in the freezing cold that is our men and women in uniform, making sure that you can wake up in the morning and make your derogatory statements. You know regardless of how stupid you make yourself look, always know that there are people just like me protecting your speech. This is all I ask if you hate America so much and what Our Country stands for then please find somewhere else to live, because even though those of us in uniform will never complain about fighting for people like you, we prefer to fight for those who care, who realize the sacrifice we make and appreciate it. So go on and live your life making more in one day then I probably make in 2 years and remember to bad mouth everything different and foreign to you, because it allows those of us you are bad mouthing a moment to enjoy the things we have that are real. Things like love, and family, and friends that care about us not our money, communities that support us and schools where our children learn diversity, common sense, and not to hate things they dont understand. I am going to finish up with a honest hope, because those of us in America still believe in this, GOD BLESS YOU and your family.

It is unfortunate that people like this have children. They can give them anything money can buy, but no manners or love. Gayla can be anything she sets her mind to because she has the heart for it. The Fowlers on the other hand have none and the one thing they can never be is people with class. It is obvious Mrs Fowler has no backbone to allow such a womanizer to treat another female like that and she has no respect for her or her daughter. Her own Juliette puts down Gayla when she says she is uneducated, and these words are her father's not hers. Ask their children in 30 years how much love they have for their parents and you will see. As a well educated female that strives for the best of everyone and herself I can say that the one thing anyone, that wants this world to be better, can do is better yourself because change starts within. I do not feel sorry for his kids. I believe that we could learn from the self discipline they hold. He was rude, there is not one doubt about that. I wonder if anyone really looked at the underlying message though. Is exercise riding on ATVs and eating McDonald's every night? This is the stereotype of America, people who have a present mindset (engorge your face with large amounts of fatty foods and sit on ATVs or the couch as exercise) and not a future mindset (if I push my kids now they have options in the future). It is a shame that Stephen's wife did not have a chance to convey the message she could have due to the fact she needed to defend her husband. This family does present a lesson and that is that hard work and caring for yourself with diet and exercise pays off. I know what you will say and go ahead but how many women (or men)at their age are as thin and in shape as that family is.
The other point is education. If we spent less time sucking the exhaust of fossil fueled vehicles and more time on reading and education, maybe we would have figured out a way to solve issues that are causing difficulties in our country or world today.
Basically, my point is turn off the freaking tv (since you do not like his view on the world) and educate yourself and kids on what causes that interest you.

I was both sickened and completely annoyed after viewing the recent Wife Swap episode featuring Renee Stephens and her repulsive husband, Stephen. It was disturbing to hear their distorted views, wishing to be considered "World Citizens" instead of proud Americans. Obviously they have not had any loved ones who participated in our military protecting our borders, language and culture in America. It is completely understandable this type of mentality runs rampant in San Francisco, a city void of any moral character.
I am a successful, educated, proud, moderate-conservative American who was raised in Minneapolis (in the Midwest). The snobbish behavior exhibited by this brash couple confirms the worst of what we in the Midwest thought were only fictional stereotypes of extreme-liberal San Franciscans. They confirm that the fiction is a reality. My only fear is how we can stem this liberal mental disorder from spreading outside of large metropolis' such as LA, SF and Portland, which are already brimming with these "World Citizens".

I am in the military and just got back from a challenging year in Iraq. After watching this episode live of this French high nosed fool I can't be any prouder to say I AM AN AMERICAN and I served my country well even for ignorant people like him. I am also a medic and I go to college guess what Fowler.. were not all stupid who join the military! I watched this episode of Wife Swap and was speechless afterwards. I could not believe this guy. I was especially offended of his view of the military. First of all, My husband is in the military and currently deployed in the middle east. For this "man" to offend our service men, woman and their families is unacceptable. I'm not saying that he needs to support the war. God knows I would rather have my husband home with me instead of defending our country. He SHOULD have respect for them. They are the reason he can run his mouth freely. He is a disgrace to the United States of America. And for all I care and millions of others, he can go back where he came from. All of the arguing and bickering over this is pointless. If his words/actions were "prompted", then it just goes to show that anything and everything has a price; including self respect. If what happened was real, he has proved his true colors and that is something he will have to live with. I refuse to throw insults and take no offense to anything he said about redneck or our military, as I am both. What I do know is this - if it was not for the hundreds of thousands of people willing to serve and sacrifice, he would not even have the right to speak freely as he did. NARCISSISTIC PERSONALITY DISORDER I believe Stephen Fowler suffers from extremely low self-esteem, which is a characteristic of narcissistic personality disorder and disguises as a sense of superiority in the sufferer's conscious awareness. Also his lack of empathy for the feelings of another is another characteristic. NP disordered patients can't be helped, only made aware of their disorder, which rarely changes their behavior. These people can only be tolerated by society. Thankfully, he is one who contributes at least monetarily to American society. Perhaps his children will understand his aberrant behavior as the disorder which it is and not emulate him as they mature.

As a United States Marine, i was deeply offended at the comments Stephen Fowler made on national T.V. I risk my life, as well as my brothers risking theirs to allow him to make the kind of money he makes, and to eat the food he eats and to send his kids to a great school. Might i remind his little ass that if it wasn't (mainly) for the U.S. Service member, Brittan would have crumbled to the Germans, and he wouldn't even me in my beloved country. He wouldn't ever speak English with his little accent. Once again, i was steamed by how ignorant he is capable of being. I say send him back to his own country. Let the Brits deal with him. If Mr. Fowler is soooo smart, why didn't he learn any manners? I feel really, really bad for him and his family because he seems to remain clueless and cold about how rude and hurtful he is to others. If he treated a guest in his home like he did on the show, how much worse is his behavior in private? His children will suffer for seeing his behavior and thinking this is the normal way to behave. I really feel sorry for that poor woman who put up with him for two weeks! I just wanted to reach out and give her a hug! I am from MO and don't appreciate what this man has said! I was medically discharged from the Navy for cancer, I'm a Marine wife and and Air Force sister. I have many ties to the military and I love my life. Without those who serve that man would never be able to send his little brats to private school or have the job or home he has. I am also educated and have been around the world a number of times; without the military! I come from a family wealthy family and have probably done and been through just as much as this man in a shorter life, because I know I'm not as old as he is. He wants to send those brats to private school for a good education, but a person doesn't only get their education from school but from home life as well.....He was teaching those children that this behavior is okay. They will grow up and loose everyone and make no friends if they act this way. As he was putting down so many people around the country, it's obvious he ISN'T the perfect one either as so many "Americans" are very unhappy with his actions. There are so many innocent people just living their lives and being who they are that watched that show and now feel as thought they aren't good enough because some rude man on TV said something rude about the way they live their lives. I think this man needs to be thrown out in front of ever person in America that he could have possible hurt. Let America at him!

I thought about that Stephen Fowler character for days after that Wife Swap episode. I have 2 kids about the same age as his. I pray that their paths in life never cross. He is teaching them to be rude elitist nontolerant mean people.
They live in San Francisco. San Francisco is very multicultural. Most people are not schooled in elite private schools. Fowler is teaching his children to look down on most all of society because they have not had the finances pumped into their upbringing. I am almost done with my MBA with a concentration in International business and I have never ever thought of telling anyone that he is uneducated, overweight, and his kids are only good for the army. Give me Jillian and Bob any day, or a trainer that really cares about me and my weight loss. first off let me start by saying I was in the army and spent 2 one year tours in Iraq. My husband who is a very well educated college grad is in the military also and in Afghanistan as i type. I live in a military town, all my friends are military or military spouses and my son was born in a military hospital. I learnt more in my 5 years of service than I ever would have thought possable. Now let me get to my fellings on this man. You are a low life piece of trash. You criticize other people for what they do and believe in, but you are what is wrong with this country. Soldiers are there to protect all americans, they give you the freedoms to express your opinion in this mannor. You should be greatful. I dare you to look a soldier in the face and tell him or her they are worthless or a burden on sociaty because that is basicly what you are implying. As for insulting overweight people, some people can't help being overweight. I gained a hundred and ten pounds with my daughter and can't seem to lose the baby weight. OK, here's the thing:
My husband and I own a successful business with annual profits in the millions. We have a child that we send to a private school, where she is currently studying both Spanish and Japanese. We stress the importance of both physical fitness and education to our daughter. My daughter has been to 6 foreign countries already. I am pretty darn intelligent, having read and understood Stephen Hawking's "A Brief History of Time" - while inebriated during a 12 hour flight. My husband enjoys wine and cares deeply about the environment.
In many ways, my family is a lot like the Fowler Family. However, in one way, we differ - neither I or my husband are raging douchebags with such low self-esteem that we need to denigrate ANYONE the way Stephen Fowler did to Mrs. Long. His behavior was sickening to me, and I found myself identifying almost immediately with Mrs. Long, a woman who - while maybe not making the best food/fitness choices for her family - is nevertheless a decent, kind, loving person who deserved not one iota of the abuse that Dick Fowler unleashed upon her.
Nobody who is secure in who they are - regardless of their income level - would ever feel the need to be so contemptuous of another person. This leads me to believe that The Fowlers aren't nearly as well off as they would have us believe. It seems more that Mr Fowler is terrified of losing what he now has, to the point that he sees people in the "lower" classes as "the enemy", worthy of scorn. I believe we always get the most vitriolic towards the people or things that frighten us the most.
I also feel that Mr. Fowler unloaded on Mrs. Long the ay he did because he resented the idea of even having to participate in the show. The more I think of it, the more it becomes clear to me that participation in this show was Renee's idea - she certainly felt that her appearance on the show would help bring her new business. And it probably would have, if her husband didn't vent his resentment at having to be a part of the show by being as nasty as humanly possible to Mrs. Long. And I really feel that his constant comments about Mrs. Long's weight were a form of sabotage - he MUST have known that Renee hoped to parlay her appearance on the show into an increased client list. Only someone deeply resentful of both his wife and the situation would behave in a way guaranteed to destroy Renee's purpose for even being on the show.
And lastly, I am glad that both their professional lives are suffering. They deserve to be shamed for their elitist, condescending, and contemptuous attitudes towards other human beings. Even other wealthy people (although I agree with others that The Fowlers aren't "rich" so much as "upper middle class") will shun them, after this. True wealthy people NEVER brag about or flaunt their status in such a crass way, and Mr. Fowler has essentially "shown his ass" and made a serious social gaffe, one I hope from which he won't ever fully recover.

All I can say is "hypocrite." For one thing, Fowler lives in San Francisco, a melting pot of diversity. From Asian American's, Mexican American's, African Americans, European Americans, etc.
Also, I served in The United States Navy for four honorable years. I believe in serving the country that gives me freedom. I also believe people have a right to be free. That is why I served my country to allow people like "YOU," Mr. Fowler to live a free life in the U.S.A. If Americans disgust you so much, why not try living in Africa where slavery is still practiced.
Have you ever served for this country? May be... NOT. I've never been to the mid-west but all I can say about the bit west is that they rock. More than 50% of America's food comes from farms in that part of America.

1.people who have been in abusive relationships. it is so hard for me to watch him because i am triggerd by it. he employs the same techniques, the railroading, illogical abuse and coldness that i have experienced with men in my life. i would go so far to say that he possibly has a drinking problem and eating disorder, the self loathing is there. anyway, i am offended that he has gotten away with this abuse for so long.
2. his own children. they will be scarred for life by him. it is the saddest part of all. he has shown them pain and cruelty, manipulation and ignorance. they will remember it. maybe they will cover and mask, but the pain will be there. i hope renee divorces this loser and never lets him near those kids again.

Please pray for this family. For the lady that was abused during this show, I apologize to you and your family. Thank you for supporting the military. It is interesting to see that people here on our own soil would not talk to me due to a "lack of education". However the same people would call on "US" (all the Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Airmen, and the Coast Guard when their lives and "wealth" are at stake. I love this country. There is no other place I would rather be, and no other profession I would consider. We protect and serve, because that is what we love. For the people that do not respect or like us, you have my heart, soul, service and respect. God Bless you all and God Bless America!

Most city Californians feel the way he does toward people from the Midwest or the South. We view them as foreigners who do not belong in our state. If it was up to me I would deport all non Californians from this state. Please stop invading us, no one wants you out here.
Secondly, the military is made up of the lower classes. I do not see why the truth upsets people. Our own president Bush (and others) did everything to avoid mixing and fighting with the common man in Vietnam.

I'm a Californian, grew up there, spent 21 years of my life there. I don't feel anyone is a "foreigner." Especially considering people did not just "pop up" in CA, they had to have come from somewhere else.
Secondly, I am in the military (well, Reserves now) but served 5 years Active Duty in...*shocker* the MILITARY INTELLIGENCE field. (My only stupid thing was joining the Army for the money, vs. joining the Air Force for the "cush lifestyle." Hey, I'm military, I can joke about that. Airmen in our AIT lived in a hotel and had maids come in to clean their rooms!) I hold a Master's Degree in Business, which the military paid for. My parents were both in the Air Force and both are highly intelligent. I definitely wouldn't call us lower class. My mother is retired and owns her own home and automobile. My father is deceased. I own my car and have no debt. As for President Bush, well, I don't know how comfortable I'd feel using HIM as a measuring stick.
I'll leave you with this joke: The president finally explained why he sat in that classroom on 9/11 for 7 minutes after he was told the country was under attack. He said he was 'collecting his thoughts.' What a time to start a new hobby.'

I grew up in the Midwest; I have friends who are California born and bred going back many generations. They do not feel 'invaded' by people from other states moving here. And I certainly do not and I live in California. I have lived in California almost half my life, now. Does that still make me an 'invader'? How can you invade a state in the country you are already a citizen of? Your assertion is based on your own view, perhaps those of a few people you know, but it does NOT reflect that of an entire state or city.
Most of what I have heard from "city Californians" as you put it, is the opposite: They are for everyone's rights to do what they please. That is a whole other story.

Just listening to John Lydon sing "Pretty Vacant" on itunes - came up at random on my playlist. Lydon has a very high IQ and has had criticism for social policy (including that of England) in the past. He wrote a very good autobiography. Have met him and in person he is very polite. Intelligence is *as intelligence does* - and most truly impressive people I have met, were not braggarts, either. *Nor could they be induced to be, by a reality show producer*

Nothing is wrong with Reality Tv, but this Fowler jerk is full of himself, along with his wife. Their approach in life is portrayed best in San Francisco; many people who are statistically below the "American Norm" lives there. He was appauling as a parent, he lacked character and lacks manners. They should do Husband swap and let him stay around a military community. Worse yet, he should return to his native land and cast his misguided dispersion upon their people. As a man who espires to be so intelligent, he didn't have the ability to be civil. I don't think he knows what it means to be a gentleman. ABC should have revoked any monies that were due to them; which was never showed. Stephen Fowler is a grade A jerk. I feel so sorry for the woman from Missouri. I am from Kansas. I guess that makes me uneducated and a loser. I work as a Paramedic. There you go - uneducated again. What I would do to spend an hour in a room with this jerk. There would only be one of us walking out of the room and it wouldn't be him.
I feel for his kids because they are now tainted and will end up having the same mindset as him.
I am shocked that ABC went ahead and aired this episode. This encourages this type of behavior. Why would you show a woman getting degraded like this? Doesn't make sense to me.

Stephen Fowler claims to be a genius (158 IQ, by his estimate) however he displays the most classic fear response - aggression - when faced with a culture that he doesn't understand. It's classic! I am a spouse of military. My husband was deployed to Iraq twice to protect this country and people like Stephen Fowler. I was so fed up with his comment about military people being stupid. My husband is the most insightful and intelligent person I've never met. I also have a cousin who died in combat. It is so disgraceful to say offensive words against military. The top 3 things Stephen Fowler managed to offend me about was his racism, his hatred towards "unintelligent people" and his cruel mocking to those overweight.
1. This man caused me a lower opinion of British people than I already had. Not to be racist, but I think the British actually believe they are more clever than America. They seem to be snobby to me. Sure, I have British friends and they are very pleasant and humble, but Britian itself has started to rub me wrong. But I will always talk to a British person with respect and know they are proud of where they came from, and I find that honorable. Laying this aside, if this man thinks Europe is so great, he needs to go back there. The fact this man has the balls to come to America and share her pleasures, rights and freedoms, then spit right in her face makes me sick. America treats this man as though he was one of her own, and lets him raise his children and provide for his family. He's been treated like an American citizen, and I bet Britian could barely treat him better.
2. Just because someone has a lower IQ than you, it doesn't make them any less of a person. If they are humble, loyal, and honest while you on the other hand are an arrogant, bastabbing, lying piece of shit, than that makes them much more of a man/woman than you, and you can hide behind your IQ. Besides, maybe some people cannot help it they are lower in education, they may have a mental handicap such as A.D.D or dylexia, or they were poor and couldn't afford college. That changes things quite a bit now, doesn't it?
3. Making fun of fat people is cruel and mean. Fast food is cheap and you see it on TV all the time. It is the government's fault, if you ask me. Again, some people may not be able to help it. If they were born plump (like me, but I lost weight when I was 9 or so) or have a disorder in their hormones, that would also change things. Plus, though America may be the fattest country in the world, Britian may follow. Watch the BBC channel and watch "You Are What You Eat" and you see there are many fat people in Britian. The hypocrisy disgusts me.
This man is a racist snob and narcissist to the point he may have a mental illness (check Wikipedia for Narcissist Personality Disorder, a.k.a N.P.D). Their deeds for this country are honrable and if it wasn't for them Fowler would not be living in this country without witnessing terrorist attacks on the television every month. Also, I have a sister, soon to be married to a marine. Himself, quite intellegent, and also currently fighting for this country that Mr. Fowler thinks he's improving by being the asshole he is!
Another thing, unlike Mr. Fowler I don't boast about the fact that I live in an upper class home.

My husband spent 18 years in service to this country. He has been in more countries than this man will ever dream of visiting. He is not college educated, but is a very intelligent man. He is not from this po-dunk town (to quote Mr. Fowler) but chose to live here after retirement from the military, and horror of horrors, is married to a woman from OK. He works hard, and takes care of himself and his own. But above all, he is the kindest and most compassionate man I have ever known. He sacrificed so much time away from his family, so many holidays far from home and those he loved.
And did so, without a complaint, because he truly believed in what he did, and because
He loves this country and her people, regardless of how good or bad at heart they may be.
It saddened both of us, to see such a display of disrespect for those who defend this mans freedom every day. But to spit hate back at him, would make us no better than he.
It is true, that, "what you sow, also shall you reap'. And I believe, that he has and will continue to reap the results of what he has said and done. Every action has a consequence.
His cruel words to Gayla, in my opinion did not reflect on her. Rather, they reflected
On the sad state of his own soul. Only true darkness of heart, could view others as beneath him who do not share his views, his income level, or his level of education.
There are just some things that cannot be learned in a book. They must come from within.
For those who have said that the show was a result of extensive editing, and not really how this man is, I simply ask this. If he were not guilty of being such a sad excuse of a human being, then why did he himself, of his own volition,

And yet, in spite of the many ways he offended so much of what is close to my
heart, I choose to be above his level of hate and ignorance. I choose not to lump
all people from his area as being "just like him" the way he has generalized
the rest of the country which he has found so distasteful.. I choose to simply leave him to his own devices. What he gives out in life will eventually come back to him.
And as for Gayla, it is my sincere hope, that she will never let her self-image
be defined by the words of another.

I'm actually quite curious as to Mr. Fowler's actual CV. Where he actually grew up and how. He is incredibly insecure, bigotted and overcompensating for someone alleged to be "intelligent." No one who is brighter or more attractive than anyone else would point that out to them. He's nothing more than a ridiculous ninny, with a sad little "smug" problem."
He seems like the weird kid in school that you catch sticking his fingers down his pants and then smelling them. I'd like to take up a fund to deport him and his wife out of the country as it's so substandard for them.

As even Fowler admits now, (in his 'apology letter' which hope is sincere and not a damage control attempt to save his wife's weight loss business) condemning an entire geographic region is ludicrous! (And as someone born and raised in 'the Midwest', I find nothing wrong with it at all.)
Surely he must realise that people of all types exist in all locations of the world. There is no such thing as "Fowler-land" where everyone is a clone of himself. Growing up some of the smartest families were the farmers and their children. It is not easy to run a farm, to make things grow from the ground generation after generation. Not everyone has the opportunity to get a college degree; that has little to do with native ability. And there are *many types of intelligence* which IQ tests and yes, GRE exams, do not measure.

I am proud of the Midwest and value many things other than a score on a GRE and how much money someone has in their IRA.

A word on class. It seems to be the core of Fowler's insecurity - who is of a certain 'class' and who is not. First of all, in America we do not relate to a class system harkening back to feudal times. Not wishing to be oppressed by classist elitists, is one reason the Revolutionary War was begun.
Class is, and always has, shown more in how a person treated another person *especially someone who did not have their same advantages* than in the amount of wealth they have or in the records their family kept of its ancestry. As someone said, "all families are old; some just keep better records."
A mark of a lady or a gentleman is that they make others around them feel at ease and comfortable. As such, Fowler showed an absolute *lack* of 'class' bearing out his own fears. Gayla showed absolute 'class' and grace under pressure.
Further a word on food and weight and socio-economic strata. In a time when food was scarce and 'rich' food was eaten BY the rich, the rich had gout and were often 'overweight'. The poor were thinner/had tanner skin. Look at paintings from those times, the ideal beauty was pale and chubby. *Now* the rich can afford to go to the gym, and eat organic diets; cheap food tends to be fattening. So I think Fowler's paranoia about fat (and his wife's perhaps) has a lot to do with their views on 'class' as a monetary dividing line. Another form of financial snobbery.
I do think they are opposed to overweight people aesthetically as well, but again that goes back to society's view of 'fat' people as poor, ignorant and lazy. Whereas thin, and/or tan people (tan is less in fashion lately, admittedly) are seen as productive, wealthy achievers. All a load of BS, but it is how some elitists think.
Mrs. Stephen Stephens-Fowler also struck me as 'phony' and Gayla's husband had some strange opinions about health, but Stephen and Gayla pose the most striking contrast so are more interesting to discuss quite frankly.

PS my grandpa was a litter carrier in WW2 probably saved a few British lives, maybe even that of someone named Fowler. Who knows. My uncle served in Vietnam and two other uncles were career military. All very intelligent men who did not shirk from duty. I'd just like to say thank you to all the military personnel out there for their sacrifices. You did not deserve what the foul Fowler said!

What really breaks my heart is that he represents the condescending nature of a lot of people that can or won't value what is simple and beautiful in this world and that is just to enjoy the moments that you are in.
The truth is that choices are no greater or lesser than others especially if they are just that life choices. Education like anything else is just that a tool to get to a means. It doesn't make you better or lesser than another. Nor does being from a simple life make you any more real than someone who was blessed with breaks in life.
Laugh at where you are, strive to be where you want to be and lift up any and everyone you can along the way above and beneath you. If not for your self do it for the kids around you because thats what your modeling wether you know it or not.

For someone who is so 'clever', why did he go on Wifeswap? He's complaining that they edited out the nastiness of the wife who was living with him !! Of course they did,it makes good TV. No doubt she was annoying, which is why the show threw them together. Has he never seen wifeswap? It's no excuse for his behaviour, nobody forced him to be such a jerk. The show didn't need to edit him negatively, he did it to himself. He was obviously a jerk before the show, otherwise they wouldn't have used him. The show knew what they were doing...d'uh !

Your intelligence is measured by where you are standing at any given time in the world. Books don't have feeling people do. A combination of the two is what we need to live and raise our children. What will your kids pass on to your grand kids? Be an educator to your children not just a book! I believe that we are all on this earth to extend a hand to our less fortunate brothers and sisters who are on the same road we all travel and not to use that hand to slap them down. I know someone will or has extended their hand to you but have you or will you take it before its to late?
Enjoy your family and pass on the emotions that the books you read brings out in you. Become the life balance your family needs and they will pass it on and extend their hand to others.

I was ready to contact wife swap myself that very night to voice my opinion and did call but it was just a voice mail for people intested in being on wife swap no live person. Wow. I commend everyone here for their outrage at this guy. I just watched the episode online and holy smokes - I cannot believe the "Missouri hick" husband didn't beat Fowler up. I'm Canadian, but even I felt shocked at how the U.S. was insulted.
I know we have all progressed far as a society, but wouldn't an old fashioned tar-and-feathering seem fitting?

I for one think Gayla Long handled this with more grace then I would have. To be so insulted on public TV and in front of his children, driven out of his home was shameful. I for one am going to send her $5.00 and if everyone sent her at least $1,00 who felt the same way she could have a nice vacation and America could show her that we are sorry how she was treated. Who I most feel sorry for...are the children.
They have a father that no-one would wish for or strive to be like.
They have a mother they look to for protection, and they receive none.
My father worked for movie studios yet loved everyone. Never knew a stranger and our doors were always open to anyone. I cherish that today.
My mother always made sure that anyone who entered our home was fed and knew the love of Christ.
Faith, commitment (not to trees), hope and joy filled our home.
My parents were commited to eachother, they had faith and hope in all people,
and such joy in knowing true love.
I find it funny and ironic that my father probably made ten times as much money as this man...and only had a sixth grade education.
But my parents have known more happiness then this man could ever imagine.
This is a sad family who just doesn't get it.

I qualify with about 8 of the 15 reasons you can hate Stephen Fowler on the above list, I just happened to watch the show the night that it aired (which I rarely do) but I noticed his bad attitude the moment I landed on the channel. I don't personally like what he said but I as an occasional paintball toting, ATV riding, fast food eating, intellectual, mid-western American "redneck" who knows many people who fight for the right so that we can voice our opinions on sites like these was not insulted. I think we all know that he's is not much of a class act and he didn't show much class by the way he treated the his (swapped) wife but we all still have the right to say what we want (for the time being). Don't hurt this guy or his kids physically... don't call his cell phone or visit his address or work.... let it go and use some of this outrage toward the changing the direction that our country is going. You are just helping him get his own reality show so that ABC or some other network can shove some more of his personality and opinion down your throats!!!

I can give you an example. Just two weeks ago a mother and father had their child taken away because they named their son Hitler. Although I think they are idiots for doing this to a child I don't think our government should remove the child because of his name. It was all over the news so you can just google "son named after Hitler" and look it up for yourself.

He reminds me of a so called friend from England(who I incidently hired at my busniess so she could get a greencard) who went after me one time saying"You Americans think you were the only ones who fought WWII...we fought too"....That came out of nowhere. What a thing to say to am American. Seems like that would be the sort of thing Fowler would say. No logic in his thinking. No logic in hers....

i have to agree to both sides, although both families are on the extremes. The Fowlers, i think should continue to be strict when it comes to their children's education. I agree full on about their lifestyle and values. Where the line is crossed is being pretentious. I once heard a quote that said, "Only look down on others if you're helping them up." in this case the Fowlers only wanted to tear them down. On the other hand, the Missouri family live a ultimately conventional life, and they had no real aspiration to change. they're bodies are polluted with the instant gratification of fast food and until this episode had no motivation to expand their knowledge of anything. It killed me when they couldn't even walk down the path they usually ride everyday. They all have man boobs and are all complaining that they don't want to do it because its not fun?!? I guess thats the American way, and I agree with the Fowlers, and this is coming from someone who spent most of her life in St. Louis (Mo). Bottom line is that he should have treated them with respect. They claim to want to be citizens of the world and they know so much about other cultures, but anybody can tell you the "golden rule" or "karma" Mrs. F. used inferiority and meanness as a means of being helpful. And Mr. F. automatically disconnected someone who is obviously different from him and had no desire to inspire change. Yet he wouldn't call himself a racist, or a womanizer, because those people don't see the other race or sex "as a whole human being." but he was doing the same to that womaan as any racist, womanizer, or all other discriminators will do. because they don't like someone/ understand them, they shun them away. and people shouldn't be so upset because people think the way the Fowlers do all the time, the only difference is they said it.
